Faculty member and alumnus Dr. Eric H. Shaw ’72, ’73, has made FAU the beneficiary of a generous gift from his estate which will benefit both future students and faculty. The deferred gift has an estimated future value of more than $1 million and includes a distinguished professorship in business, graduate scholarships for student athletes and a gift to the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi Endowed Scholarship Fund.

“I am forever grateful to FAU for providing me with an excellent education, giving me terrific mentors and offering me so many opportunities for professional and personal growth during a wonderful career,” said Shaw. “I am delighted to show my appreciation in making this small contribution to a great university.”

Dr. Shaw earned his undergraduate and graduate degrees from FAU in the 70s. He went on to earn his Ph.D. from Temple University and taught at several public and private institutions before coming home in 1982 to reunite with those FAU scholars who influenced and mentored him as a student. He chaired the Marketing Department of the FAU College of Business and taught undergraduate, MBA and doctoral courses in marketing. “It is heartwarming to hear what my students have accomplished in their careers and to know that my teaching has had relevance in their personal and professional lives,” he offered. I have received so much from FAU, it is only natural that I give back.”

He served five years as the Faculty Athletics Representative to the NCAA and has remained an avid Owl fan. Along with two other past presidents of the Honor Society of Phi Kappa Phi he was a founder of the Scholarship Fund for outstanding undergraduate students going to graduate school at FAU.

Shaw also created a memorial fellowship for first year graduate students in the College of Business. Prior to his retirement on July 1, 2014 Shaw celebrated 33 years on FAU’s faculty. He recently received the President’s Leadership Award, and is currently working with Ph.D. students, writing articles and co-chairing the Owl’s Nest Faculty and Staff Giving Society.
